Substance Abuse Prevention Programs
[ More Services]

The prevention program provides a variety of school and community based services that have as their goal to reduce drug use and violence, especially among our youth.  School based counselors work in several schools to help youth deal with issues leading to substance abuse or violence, such as truancy, poor learning skills, family history of abuse or of the problem behavior.  Prevention educators work in school classrooms to provide tested curricula that have been shown to reduce drug use and violence.  These programs are delivered over a period of time, usually once a week for 8, 10 or more weeks.  Students learn the dangers of drug use and violence, and the skills necessary to resist: good decision making and problem solving skills, assertiveness, stress and anger management, effective communication.  Similar activities are offered to after-school and summer programs.  Another service is parenting education, offered in conjunction with The Family Room, to provide support and success to parents in raising responsible children.
