Families United Now (Parent Education) and Families in Transition Programs

The Families United Now (FUN)-Family Enrichment Program is a collaborative effort of the CCFMC Family Resource Center (The Family Room) and CCFMC Substance Abuse Prevention Education Services.

Families United Now (FUN) is an opportunity for families, parents, grandparents, foster parents, new parents or parents to be, to grow stronger and healthier through a growth in knowledge and  enhancement of skills. 


Families will gain knowledge and resources on topics such as:

  • What makes an active, involved parent/child
  • Winning Cooperation
  • Building Bridges
  • Child Development and Age Appropriate Rules and Behavior
  • Positive Messages and Reinforcement
  • Substance Abuse Issue and other Risk Factors
  • Understanding and Redirecting Behavior
  • Building Academic Success through Parental Involvement
  • Fighting Temper Tantrums
  • The natural “off-switch” to babies crying
  • Where to go to get help and what resources are available throughout your community

Programs are offered at various times throughout the year and are targeted to the following age ranges:

0-2: Focusing on Development, Age-Appropriate Behavior, Bonding, Health and Wellness, and Accessing Community Resources

3-5:  Focusing on Development, Age-Appropriate Behavior, Positive Discipline Techniques, Encouragement and Praise, The importance of Academic Involvment and Character, Courage and Self-Esteem in toddlers

5-12:  Focusing on Positive Discipline Techniques, Academic Involvement, Risk and Protective Factors, Self-Esteem, Effective Communiciation, Power Struggles and Choice and Consequence

Utilizing evidence-based programming we seek to support parents in their efforts to raise healthy, productive and successful children.

Families in Transition-a certified program of the New York State Parent Education and Awareness Program

What is Transitioning Families?
Transitioning Families is a program designed to educate divorcing or separating parents about the impact of their breakup on their children. The primary goal of the program is to teach parents ways they can reduce the stress of family changes and protect their children from the negative effects of ongoing parental conflict.

What is the Program Format?
The program consists of two sessions lasting 2.5 hours each session. Classes are limted to 20 people. Participants will not be placed in the same class as the other parent of your child(ren).

Is there a fee for the program?
A non-refundable fee as indicated on the enrollment form, payable by check or money order, must be submitted with your enrollment in order for you to be enrolled in a class. Please note: There will be a fee for returned checks as indicated on the enrollment form. (Financial Assistance may be available, for more information please contact the program coordinator)

Are there any materials provided?
Participants will be provided with a Resource Manual and Handbook for Parents which contains a compilation of resources for parents and children to locate assistance and support including local human services agencies, reading materials and informative articles.

When and Where are classes held?
Locations and times of classes will not be publicized. Classes will be held on a monthly basis. You will be advised of the class in which you have been enrolled via letter. This will include a map and other pertinent information to confirm your registration.

What are the attendance requirements?
You must attend both classes to receive a Certificate of Compliance. Registration is held 1/2 hour prior to the class. Classes start promptly. Anyone more than 15 minutes late will be denied admittance.
If you fail to attend a class for which you are registered, you will need to submit a new registration. You will not be registered into another class until all new applicants have first been placed. Children are NOT permitted to attend classes.
