Since 1993, Catholic Charities has committed itself to serving the victims of domestic violence in several ways. Catholic Charities furnishes victim’s services through the Domestic Violence and Crime Victim Services Program.
We offer counseling services to victims of crimes such as domestic violence, robbery, assault, mugging, shootings, alcohol related auto accidents or family members of homicide victims.
These services are available free of charge to qualified individuals.
Appointments are available Monday through Friday with evening sessions offered Mondays and Thursdays until 7:00 pm. For more information or to schedule and intake please call 518-842-4202. Services are available to individuals regardless of ability to pay, religion, age, gender or sexual orientation.
Our current program staff of eight provides these services in several locations throughout our county. Staff members meet with clients/crime victims in our offices in Amsterdam, at the Amsterdam Police Department (where the Advocates have a desk and voice mail), the Sheriff’s Department, Amsterdam City Court, Montgomery County Family Court, and any other suitable public place.
This program currently offers the following services:
- 9 bed safe dwelling
- 24-hour Hotline
- Support Group
- Community education and outreach
- Advocacy services in both criminal and civil court systems
- Crisis intervention
- Therapy and supportive counseling
- Victim's rights assistance
- Information on filing compensation
- Claims, emergency food and financial assistance
- Personal advocacy with a variety of other service providers such as DSS, hospitals, housing and employment searches, Community Maternity Services, and others
- Transportation
- Cell phone program
All of these services are provided in both English and Spanish.
